Description

These streptavidin coated sodium yttrium fluoride:ytterbium,erbium (NaYF₄:Yb,Er) upconverting nanomaterials (UCNMs) are prepared by covalently bonding the streptavidin protein to the nanoparticle surface. This modification allows for the utilization of the extremely high affinity between streptavidin and biotin for molecular assembly in laboratory experiments. The UCNM core provides a photostable signal for identifying biotinylated molecules with high sensitivity.
