These water-soluble NaYF4:Yb,Tm upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) are prepared with surface modifications that allow for clear dispersion in aqueous media. The Yb and Tm doping is tuned to provide a strong blue emission signal under infrared excitation. These particles are characterized by their small size and high stability in various laboratory buffer solutions.
